I found that it was most surprising when Dick was about to be executed he accepted his fate. Most criminals on death row would be afraid to die. Instead of trying to resist or beg for mercy Dick just shook his executioners hands and was ready to die. It took him 20 minutes to die. In numerology the number 20 represents those with knowledge of both good and evil. Those people will always keep a balance with choices they make. Dick knew what he did was wrong and knew that his future was inevitable.

Ron, what do you think of the idea that Dick hated his life and so welcomed death as a release from it?

It's sad that a person can have no will to live, especially when they are going through hard times. Death is inevitable, but you only get one life, so you might as well live it out to the fullest. Dick was probably waiting to finally get rid of his problems. Instead of life in prison, I guess you can consider the death penalty the "easy way out". Life in prison would be different because he would've had to serve his time and reflect on his actions.

He had accept his fate. He had done so much evil. He was/is a criminal, accepting his fate was his only choice.

I agree with you! I feel like when you've done so much bad in a world and kept it hidden it's just disgusting to try and act the victim. He made a good choice by accepting the punishment.

I also think that he had an easy way out of prison by getting excexuted. I'm against the penalty because the person that has committed crimes should reflect on their mistakes and repent on them as well. They have to learn to forgive themselves too for all of the damage that they had caused.

I agree with you Chelsea. He basically had no other choice but to accept his fate. He had already done what he did, so there was no going back now. He was a criminal and that's why he had to be executed.

I agree with you Ron because it was really hard to accept the fate that you're about to die. So when Dick accepted it it did surprised me.

I thought it was a sad way to go out, knowing that you inevitably paid the price for your wrong doings and grievances, and to just accept it.

Honestly I found that fact they only figured out the murder because of denunciation is pretty funny. I don't think that's a very important part of the book, but I just wanted to mention it.

I found the Lowell Lee Andrews story the most surprising. It was only about three pages of the book but it really had me thinking. The fact that he was capable of murdering his family and feeling no remorse about it shocked me. Mostly everything else in the book I predicted or found to be cliché.

I totally agree. I just cant understand how you can be ok with yourself and live your life normally as if nothing would have happened when you really just murdered your family. My conscience would not let me live in peace.

I agree Emily, I was surprised because I just simply could not even understand how he could do that to his own family. It's sad how he went about it and it didn't even seem like he regretted killing his own blood.

I agree with Emily, because sometimes your own family is the one who hurts you the most and it's just sad how he didn't regret it and didn't feel sad.

I totally agree with you De'Jah when Lowell had no sense of remorse I found it a bit disgusting. If you know you were capable of killing a whole family and not feeling the pain you just cause there is something wrong with you. I can not even imagine hurting anyone the way Lowell did and for him not to care about what he has done is really shocking to me. I can never see myself being close to the actions that he has caused.

The most surprising thing to me was the clues and how easily they were found. It just seemed to perfect to me. The shoes, footprint, weapon, and the shells from the bullets.

I agree too because it looks like he didn't even try to hide the fact that he killed his own family. It was almost like he was actually trying to get caught on purpose. He didn't have any mercy on his own family, so I don't think he deserved it anyways so that's why he was exceptúes anyways.

I feel as if maybe he was trying to get caught cause I agree everything was planned out and he literally hid no evidence. Maybe he wanted to show the hatred he had towards them cause as a killer the goal is not to get caught.

I found that so interesting as well, the way everything just added up and made the whole puzzle connected. It almost seemed like I was reading an episode of Criminal Minds, which made it a tad easier to read.

It was not really as surprising to me when they were found. Both Dick and Perry did not have the best relationship so when it came down to questioning I already knew that Dick would be the first to denounce Perry.

Well, the most surprising thing I found in cold blood is that even at the beginning we read Perry was one of the people who killed the whole family, the rest part of book told us that he was also a poor guy who had tragedy in his life like his families died and he was abused by the others and so on. As for me, I used to think the people who did bad things would not be sympathized, but when I read a lot about Perry, I had sympathy to him. Thus, I felt this book is different.

I also found this surprising because I would say the author purposely tried to make the reader pity Perry and understand his situation as a cold murder. I felt great sympathy towards Perry and I didn't want him to die. As of Dick, he had much more in his life, such as a family, and could've not fallen so deep into crime.

For me personally, the thing I found most interesting about In Cold Blood is the fact that it can be Fiction, but also considered Non Fiction for the fact that it uses actual history and the story of what actually happened at some time. Beside that, I also found was the detail given about most characters and the amount of attention Truman gives to this book and how noteworthy it turned out to be.

One of the many things that surprised me in this book was the amount of killing. Let me elaborate about what I mean by that. The parents, Herb and Bonnie, and teens Kenyon and Nancy were killed. The Clutters were murdered for no real reason, which is the ultimate definition of murdering someone in cold blood (hence the possible reason for the title of the book). Then after a bit of reading it is later found out that Dick and Perry are killed at the end as well. I guess what goes around comes around. I read the opinions from some of the townsfolk who attend the trial and some people think that the execution was murder.

I agree because it seemed to me like almost everyone in the book would either die or get murdered. After a while it even kind of got a bit boring. The food characters would die, but also the bad ones. So

As finishing the book , what I find most interesting and surprised me is how the judge didn't allow the psychologist's would-be statement. To me I feel could of changed the whole out come of Perry's trial . Because the judge didn't allow this in court I feel that this wasn't a fair trial, does anyone else?

What I found most surprising about "In Cold Blood" is that Perry was a subject to racism and abuse as a young child in the orphanage, and was even called derogatory terms by his caretakers. This could be what fuels his violent behavior in the future.

Something I found surprising in this book was the fact that Truman Capote included so much about Perry's life. He talked about his childhood and everything he went through and his time in prison. It was like he had so much pity for Perry that she felt bad for him like he wasn't as responsible as Dick was.

What I found most interesting In Cold Blood was with the character Dick. I couldn't figure out why someone who had his family and had everything such as a home, care and love... still was capable of being involved as he calls it " a big score." The way he thinks as a murder and sexually attracted to young girls had me wondering what made him be like that. As opposed to Perry, he sort of had a reasoned yet still doesn't justifies on what he did.

Ok to be honest the whole murder case just surprised me. A family was brutally murdered, the reason wasn't suffice enough. This was actually a real life case which i thought of pretty cool to have a book based on a real case. But seriously, the whole case was pretty messed up. Dick and Perry got what they deserved though, despite what the people say .

I think the most surprising part of the story was definitely when Dick was going to be punished by death for his crimes and he solemnly accepts the fact that his fate will be death. It really shocked me how he wasn’t fighting for his life at all. It looked like if he just gave up on life and knew that this was necessary. I am truly amazed and surprised for his ‘bravery’ and/or ‘foolishness’.

Well Capote says that Dick understands the need for revenge, so he doesn't really fear death knowing all well that he deserves it, where Perry has always felt remorse and fear of getting caught, in a way he behaves more Human than Dick even though he doesn't have a family.

I find the letter that was in the local paper telling the people to forgive the murderer who killed the Clutter family. Who could ever forgive someone for killing your family. That's not something you can forgive right away. No one knows who killed them and why. I believe that is too much to ask from someone especially since the letter came from someone in the family.

What I found interesting about this book is the emotional backlash Perry faces as he is now an adult. Perry grew up emotionally unstable considering he never finished the third grade, but him keeping a notebook proves that he holds himself at a higher standard. You could also see that Perry is lost in a way, where if you look at Dick he's more independent and more connected to his family, compared to Perry that has no real family left except for his father and sister who don't want anything to do with him. That in mind, Perry could only attach himself to people or memorabilia such as Dick or his memories because he's got no one else there for him.

The most surprising thing about the novel In Cold Blood is how much I liked it and the fact that I also found it to be quite dull! At times it can be quite fascinating, but sometimes what Capote wrote was so prolonged and just told over many times. One thing I liked was during the trial, when Logan Green spoke about religion... "you shall not kill"... and before that (page 300) how parents and environment changes the behaviors of young children and creates severe adults.
