I will be very honest and say that I just stared reading the book and it's very boring so far. Based on the cover I could tell it would be based on agriculture maybe, I am not sure. So far it has a little but way too many details, but I am beginning to admire the hard work and perseverance of the main character.

I totally agree. I also found the book quite boring to read and although I've never been particularly into crime books, "In cold blood" really disappointed me. But again I appreciate the efforts that the author put into the book.

First thoughts are that it starts off pretty slow and dragging. So far of where I'm at, I find Perry and Dick pretty disturbing. It has a lot to say for such little details that can just be simply straightforward but that's what keeps the book afloat in a way for readers to be interested.

I completely agree with you about the a lot to say but little details , I thought it also made the book seem more interesting on what the end was going to be .

My first thoughts on the book is that it was really boring and dragging. Some of the parts have more detail than necessary like the introduction to the background of the victim family. Though this book was about a murder case, the first part felt like it was some random slice of life story. It was not needed to know every single little detail about the victim but I am glad as the book went on, it picked up the pace.

I totally agree with you. I said almost the exact same thing about the book. I felt like they were at some point not getting to the point and I don't really like how the author talks a lot about Perry and not a lot about Dick which is confusing to me a little bit. But it is very true that it was dragging and digressing from the point of the whole story.

My first thoughts of the book was that it would be mostly a book about police proceedings and how they work. Then I found out who the author was, Truman Capote. Once I found out that it was written by him, i knew that it wouldn't be information based. Truman is very famous for his fiction writing, as in Breakfast at Tiffany's, so I then knew what I was getting into. This makes it less informative than i would have hoped.

I thought the book was a bit boring at first. When I first picked up the book I only got to the second paragraph and put the book down. After picking up the book again I had to force myself to keep reading since it felt like the book was dragging. After a while of reading I found myself enjoying the book. It also helped to listen to the audiobook.

My first thought when I saw the book is that it would be more modern talking about police brutality or active shooters because of the title "In cold blood". I really had to force myself to read, but once I read and got into the actual story and saw what it was about, I liked it.

I agree , as I started to read more of the book I became brought into it more and I didn’t want to read it at first , it didn’t interest me that much but once the book got more interesting I was able to get my reading done on time.

Reading the first few pages of the book, I feel confused about the book, however, based on the title I can assume it is going to be about a serious event. I feel like this book is about death because of its name. As I'm reading it right now, I noticed this book has many details which make the story seem longer and more tiresome.

I felt the same way when I started reading this book! I knew that it was going to be about something big, which is why it is so confused when I started reading, because everything seemed so normal, and slow-paced in the beginning of the book.

The way that I’m reading this novel is with an audiobook. When first starting the novel I was very very confused and I wasn’t sure what exactly was going on because it wasn’t really clear. Since I was very confused when beginning I restarted the novel a total of about two times just to make sure I had everything. This novel has a lot of pages so because I already know that I decided to use post it to track the characters that are being brought up. That’s just once technique that I used while reading, or highlighting what I find important. My favorite character so far is kind of hard and I say that because it’s between Hebert and Nancy. Honestly I think I could fit in Nancy shoes more being that she is a teenager and she’s also a female. Something I want to point out specifically is how Herbert didn’t like the idea of her being with Bobby and wanted it to end and I think that if my dad was alive today he would be the same way. Something I found relatable was how Hebert was a family man and how he wanted the best for his family which reminds me of a play I read “Rasin in the sun”. It reminds me of that play because Willy is the main character and he is trying to do what’s best or what he think is best for his family in the end by doing whatever it takes. While reading as well I noticed how when the novel begins it’s a lot of background information some of the details were also very specific. I think it’s important but at the same time I feel like the descriptions could’ve been shortened.

After I saw the cover I assumed the novel was going to be about some sort of murder. Never in a million years would I have thought it was going to be as atrocious and bloody. I was not even in the slightest way interested in reading until I got to “The Last to See then Alive”. Seeing the towns reaction made me excited and from that point my nose was in the book every other day.

When I first began to read this book , I thought that it was quite boring. I really was confused with the way that the author set up the book and it made me confused. I constantly had to go back and reread. I like the way that the characters act with one another but most of the words used I had to search up.

This book took me to read a little bit more to get interested in this book. The cover made me just think about a murder or maybe if I read the title literally, my interpretation would’ve changed. I also thought about the podcast “Serial”, even though as I read it was very different but I just seen this as a murder case. I think I was thinking too shallow.

I agree with you, when I first started reading the book it took me a while to read because of how detailed the story was. Until I got used to it and realized how nice it was for the author to write the book detailed since it made me feel like I was there.

Jessica, that is a very good point that you make. As he was writing this book, he thought a lot about his readers and made this book very detailed. In the beginning of this book though, I was interested from the start because I started to get really curious about all of the information I was reading. For the writer, I appreciate his thoughtful writing because the beginning did answer some questions I had from the book.

My first thoughts on the book was that I thought it was gonna be long and boring which it kinda was in the beginning for me but after a while I started to understand it better. I enjoyed getting to know and understand the clutter family before they were murdered. I also assumed it was going to be a bit of a detective story who might be trying to solve a case.

I did some research about this book and I found out it took the author 4 years to make this book. I took him that long to make it because he wanted it to be as accurate as possible.

I knew it was going to be associated with a murder mystery because of the title. As I was reading the first pages I was somewhat lost because the story is slow paced.

When I first looked at In Cold Blood I immediately compared this book to Maus. These two books both have some horrible events that occur in both stories. It was a different reading structure compared to Maus. When I began to read In Cold Blood, I was confused and a little uninterested. However, as I kept reading and understood the plot and met new characters, it made it a little easier to read and sort of enjoy reading it.

Based on the cover and name of the book I thought it was going to be about murder(s) that happened in the winter. Or about a murder that someone committed out of cold blood, without emotion or a second thought about it.

Based on the cover I thought the book was going to be based of a war or a battle of some kind. The words in cold blood are in what looks like a torn newspaper.

In the beginning it was really hard to focus on what was happening. i had to keep re reading sentences because I couldn't concentrate. It was really slow paced in the beginning, but as the story unfolded I became more interested and familiar with the plot and the characters.

My first thought when I read the title was this book was about to be a murder mystery. I thought this because when you see the words “In Cold Blood” you think of murder, because you’ll hear sometimes “he was murdered in cold blood”. Not to mention I knew it was going to have a more serious tone because the cover looks dark and there’s no color on it. I liked on the first crew pages it describes the setting of the story to guide our imagination. Overall I think my first was correct because the book was about murder. My opinion about the book didn’t change.

My first impression based on the cover of the book & the title is that it was about a murder in an unknown town due to the lack of activity on the cover. To me I thought the cover did describe the story because the town was mostly land and farms with the closest cafe miles away . So I can say my first impression was slightly correct because murder was involved .

As I read the first few pages , I was completely lost . I was reading the book yet not reading it not until I read about the descriptions of the Clutter family . It took awhile to understand and a lot of going back but once i finally got the hang of it , I found it interesting.

When I first started reading I was really waiting for the book to get interesting but then right when the murder happened and they were investigating the case I got very interested in the book and I couldn't stop reading it.

had a difficult time finding In cold blood, but when I finally found it and I saw the cover I thought the book would be boring. Reading into the first few pages I found that I was right. While its been in my possesion ive found it difficult to pick up the book, and once I started reading I was bored to death. I admit haven't read much of this book yet ,but from what I have read In cold blood seems to be another generic murder story. I hated how the book started with the typical murder in the middle of the night scenario. I'm not looking forward to finishing this book , but i suppose i'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

As I first began to read this book, I had no clue about the events in would cover and how the events would play out. The first thoughts I had on the book were that the book cover a time period of tension. I first related the title "Cold Blood' to the Cold War in between the US and the Soviet Union. I believe that as a reader we often connect titles and key words to major events in world history instead of connecting the titles to other key events in more local history.

Becasue I had already read the back of the book, I knew that this story was about the murder of the Clutter family, but when I actually started to read I could not imagine it hapening at all. The first few chapters seemed to be so normal to me. There were subtle hints here and there that foreshadowed the tragic fate that was to come, but never had I imagined that it could happen so quickly! The minute I felt I understood The Clutters, they had been taken away from me. It felt so abrupt, then again that is the point. It showed me how quickly these things can happen, and how much could change in one night. At first I felt that DIck and Perry’s story was a little out of place; now I see that the way in which they felt like strangers to me is the same way that The Clutters felt when the two men entered their home.

The book was a little bit confusing to me, especially the opening of the book. It was really important to me to go back and read again. The book is not something you will understand straight away, it will took time

When first reading this book it was boring. Things were slow and it felt very bland. As I read it and continued to read it things started to stir up and although it got confusing I feel like that was the fun part. Things got odd and bizarre and it was interesting how the author was detailed. It definitely got interesting when the events started to occur.
