I care for Artie because he has been struggling a lot in his life, not as much as his parents did though. He has struggled with his mothers suicide and the care of his father on his shoulders. As in Maus II there is that chapter "Auschwitz (time flies)" where he speaks of feeling depressed.

Over the course of maus I and maus II, I cared most about Vladek. Vladek in my opinion had it worst in these books because he had to deal with so many sufferings. Vladek lost his own wife to suicide, he had to drop out of school and go work at the age of 14, he was drafted into the war,he lost his son, family, and friends because of the war. Vladek has gone through so much yet he still fought. Valdek is a very strong character and He is a lucky survivor.

I agree that after all of the Hingis that Vladek went through, he still managed to survive well. I would have died from a broken heart when his wife died because of the way he talks about her. You can just tell that he lived her so much and that it hurt him a lot when he lost her. Richieu, and all of his things basically.

I agree 100% that Vladek had it worse during the war because of like you said, the pain he must have felt after losing his wife and son, and him having so many close calls with the Nazi's and the poles. I think he is very lucky to have survived what he's been through.

I agree Janae, Vladek didn't have the best life and he didn't experience the best things. I feel like he had to grow up at an early age and was doing stuff most 14 year olds wouldn't even think about and for him to do that and take on those responsibilities is amazing. I cared for Vladek the most.

Anna, I agree with you when you say you care more about Artie, but I think that really the main character is his father and that we should have more sympathy towards him and cats more about him because yes, Artie is writing this book, but it's about his father's story. He was the one that went through all of the hardships and trauma. If it wasn't for him, there would be no story.

I cared most about artie as well. The reason why is becauas how he was involved in trying to understand his father and not having his mother so he has to ask his father about her and wanting to know more. Also artie feeling guilty of not fully taking in count of his father's care yet I guess trying to in away of telling the stories but not health wise..? I also I can't imagine not having my mom and having a father that went through something so horrible and not knowing what to do for them.

I felt bad for Artie but I feel that he would let his impatience with his fathe get the best of him. I sometimes felt bad that he was tough on his dad, but then he mentions that he also kind of feels bad and frustrated because he sometimes even wishes he had gone through what his parents did to truly understand their stories.

I can also see why you'd say that Artie has had it rough, and him knowing about his mothers suicide and him speaking about his depression, would make him in a way want to know more about the war and what his father had to go through,

Over the course of Maus I and Maus II the person I cared most about was Vladek. Not only did Vladek unluckily get involved in the war, he also had to deal with many hardships throughout the holocaust. He suffered for himself and for his loved ones. Vladek's family was teared apart and so were their lives as successful business (and other professions) people. He had a couple of near death experiences and he saw others suffer and die. I feel sympathy for Vladek because he can't erase the past, instead he reminisces and forever has a part of him that was unfairly taken from him and he had to deal with it all while he was alive.

After I read Maus 1 and 2, I cared for Artie's father because when his son stood away from him he felt lonely and really upset. He started lying to get his father to his house. Like the time when he called him he said he had a heart attack. He just wanted to be with his sons but his sons thought he was crazy. Then he got sick and then Artie decides to really care for him. I really think is wrong for someone to actually care for someone after they find out their sick and decide to be with them more.

I agree with you karol. I believe that Vladek is the character ti care the most about. When hear the stories that he went through it just really broke my heart, He was starving at some points, he literally was treated with no respect, and even cared for his people even if it meant him getting beat. Don't get me wrong Artie did go through a lot but at the same time living through that war and no knowing when you're going to die or if you're even going to make it alive is very hard. I ant even imagine myself going through that.

The person I cared most about over the course of Maus 1 and 2 is Vladek Spiegelman. This character has had a bumpy lifestyle. He had to stop going to school to work at the age of fourteen. After meeting his love Anja, they had a baby some time later. She feel sick after and became depressed. Despite this he remain by her side. In 1939 he was drafted off into the war. Vladek did not want to kill anyone because he felt he had no purpose but was forced to because he had a cold gun. After he had shot someone he was caught by a Nazi. They made him work in a stable for some weeks then sent him off to war camp. He was away from his family and his business which fell apart after being robbed. He is a strong character despite all he went through.

I felt more for Vladek because he really had it the worse he didn't want to go he was drafted into the war . A teenager that didn't even want to shoot a gun that didn't want to do no harm and the most harm was done to him when he just want to live life with peace . Personally if that was me I don't know how I would live all the flashbacks would occur into my head everyday and vladek lived through it burning his wife's journals and trying to forget everything about the war

Many stories about war try to express how bad it was to be enlisted but watching how vladeck remained hopedul even after going into war and knowing his wife is ill, it really shows his pain in a different way.

I would say I feel bad for Vladek. He has been through a war, survived the holocaust, lost his wife from her suicide, is in an unhappy marriage with Mala, and his own son seems to give him the cold shoulder at times. Vladek has gone through too much and he just needs a break.

I totally agree with Ron. Vladek is the most important person in the story and he is basically narrating everything. Poor Vladek, everything also seems to be going wrong in his life as well. From being a runaway with his dear wife that he loved so much, to her committing suicide, from getting remarried to a woman that he doesn't love and to all of his medical conditions and having to take about 30 pills everyday...what else can happen to poor Vladek?

I cared the most for Vladek. I feel bad for the guy, what he had to go through. He survived the Holocaust, lost his first born child during the war, and sadly lost his wife afterwards. What bugs me the most is that his son doesn't care enough for his own father. It's not Vladek's fault for coming off as 'clingy' or 'vulnerable', but I feel as if he does need someone.

Over the course of Maus I and II the most I cared about was the character Valdek. The character has gone through hardship in life loosing his family, home.carrer and friends. He lost most of his family during the war and then startinf a family on New York and his wife committing suicide. He was mostly alone on life everyone left him and his son is not there always. He had faced many hardship but still trying to make the best out of every situation.

In answering this question, I had to choose between her, Anja or Vladek and the reason why I chose him was simply because I had more reasoning why. In reading about what happened to Anja, I certainly felt bad for her because she had no one to really convince her out of her bad thoughts. That is why I sometimes wish we could've heard her stories through her own voice.

Yes! I actually would say that I cared more about Anja than Vladek because I have lost someone to suicide. It was important for me to see how her death affected those that she left to mourn her. When Vladek would tell his story I really only wanted to hear about his and Anja’s relationship because it amazed me on how strong she was and how she was able to survive the holocaust.

Even though I'm obviously not a woman, I feel bad for Vladek as well. He has gone through a lot and he still was. His wife committed suicide, his son was killed, and he pretty much just always has an unhappy life. It seems that whatever he tries to do, he just couldn't succeed and more misery headed his way.

I feel really sad about Anja's story, her life was destroyed by the holocaust. After all the horrible things that happened to her, the reasons of her suicide are her child and her husband. I think if anyone lost their child, it will be a big shock for them. And in the story, Vladek is still living in the dream that his son didn't die.

During reading the books of Maus I and II, I care most about the Vladek, because he is a really poor guy. In the beginning, he owned some business and had a pretty good life, however, the World War II came, which destroyed his whole life, he has been enlisted, luckily he endured several months and ran back home. However, then he and his family faced more difficult life. At last, after the War, he just left few families.

Vladek absolutely. Because of his experiences, I can have some understanding of the war. The whole story is developed by his depiction. In some way he is the protagonist, he is one of the lucky survivor, and his stories are always make me impressive. Like how romantic relationship between him and Anja, how he wants to tell Art about the devoid of humanity.

Vladek is the one who I often to care more about. studies show that most kids who had unstable life in their young age happen to have psychological break down. Vladek grew up in a war zone. He has unstable mind to lead a family. This could really affect affect his son not only on his early age but also when he becomes an adult. for the most part kids are reflections of their parents and also the people they spend a lot of time with other than their family. so Vladek being stable will affect his son but also the rest of his bloodline.

I know it's sort of a push to a opinion but I actually cared for anyone in the story that had to suffer through the Holocaust, Vldaek, Anja, Shivek, Manice, Mandelbaum, even the minor people that Vladek mentioned that helped him or he helped along the way just to survive that help because this is one of the darkest points in US history that the Jewish community had to go through from being shot, tortured, killed and mentally scared for the rest of their lives if they survived.

As I read this I realized how sad and terrible everything was and I started to think about the main characters but I also started to think about all those that weren't even mentioned, those just in the background of the story and it got me thinking of the vast amounts of people going through excruciating mental and physical pain, all from elders to children who didn't know what even was happening.

The person I care for the most, throughout the whole book has to be Vladek. He himself didn't even have anything to do with the war, but it seemed to be a dark cloud following him his whole life because of the way it impacted his family. He found a positive action by trying to recreate the stories from what he has heard. That takes a lot of mental strength because not everyone can talk about something that basically ruined their family.

During the book of the Maus1 and Maus2,I thought I most care about Vladek, because he has a lot suffering and he is a really poor man. The beginning of the story he take a chance to get a business staff and it's a really good opportunity to make his wonderful life, but unluckyly, Ww2 is coming, and destoyed his life, in that time he survived in the end, but a lot people died in Ww2, his family didn't avoided too, he left his wife and son, faced a lot problems but he also find the bet way to solve them in those situations.

He missed his first son growing up because he was drafted for the war and he was a prisoner in war and had to escape. Vladek lost his son and many other family and friends because of the holocaust. The character that I care about most over the course of Maus I and Maus II would have to be Vladek. There are a couple of reasons why I think he is of importance. Not only his first hand experience with the holocaust interesting but he is such a mysterious character. And that mysteriousness is what I think makes him stand out. If you had to judge him based on just how he acts he seems to be a really outspoken person but its his outspokenness that makes me wonder so much about him. He is such a versatile person despite his age his is willing to do everything himself if thats what it takes. Another trait that makes him stand out is his perseverance and exposure to everything. When Vladek was walking with his son he almost dies and walks it off like it was nothing. And as he shares his experiences it starts to become clear as to why he is all these things. You really get to know who Vladek really is in the inside and I think really taking in all of his experiences you can get a pretty good picture of who he is. You can really tell the difference in character between Vladek and his son. And this all comes down to the experiences and what they have been through. Experiences shape people.

In Maus I and II i cared about Vladek more because he lived in a harder time than Artie. His story in general is just sadder. First he had to go to war, and leave his first born son behind. He also had to be treated like nothing especially when he was a prisoner of War. Living in holocaust was obviously an obstacle, because you loose so many people that you've cared for in your life.

The character I care about in Maus is artie because he takes interest in what happened to his father and I feel like kids now don't care about what their parents. All these kids care about is what new trend is going on or if they had got a text from their friend and artie struggles just as much as his parents do. Its cool to that he wants to write a book about his father ad his experience during his harsh time. This kind of shows a little bond the two characters.

When it comes to the cource of WWII, I care about the people who suffered and lost their lifes during the time period, but the character I care the most about in Maus 1 and 2 is Vladek. I care for Vladek because he was sent to the army and became a prisoner for the germens and he had to live outside in the cold and wash him self up in a river. I was surprised of Vladek because when he comes back to his family and learning that the Germans took control of every market and Vladel had to be smart in his decisions in the city to make himself seem useful and to feed his family and one small step could send him back to the camp. But the worst part was Vladek wife, Anja has suicide and that point takes him to lose his mind. He made me worry for Vladek each time I learn more of what happened to him the more I get scared.

I cared more for Anja I say this because she had everything handed to her she never knew the real struggle until the war hit, never worked a day in her life lost all her family already going through depression with very little money left. She had it all then went down hill, only useful thing she had was she knew how to speak German but other than that nothing, if she did not have her husband by her side she would have gotten killed or even died in that war with the rest of her family. In a way, I feel some sort of sympathy for her because I really did not expect much from her.

What happened to Anja was terrible. When Richieu was born, Anja went through depression. The Holocaust was another reason for her death. All the suffering she went through in the Holocaust and being separated by his son was hard for her. I think that the thing that hit her the most was the death of Richieu. For a mother, losing a son is hard. I think there was another reason of why she ended her life. She got traumatized by what happened to her son that she was afraid that the same thing would happened to her son, Artie. Altogether, she had such a great fear of losing another child that her fear ultimately took over her and was the main cause of her suicide.

I care most for Art, as he tries to understand his parents' lives, he becomes confused and guilty for not having to go through their sufferings. He struggles internally and alone, only his wife and children-to-come remain. His brother, Richeu, always in photograph, but never alive. His early life complicated with unstable emotions all around. His father sick and close to death, Artie keeps the family in memory.

I would say that over the course of Maus I & II the character I care about the most is definitely. Vladek. It is very different to write or even to listen to a story, than to actually live it. Vladek has gone through many misfortunes in life. He lost his son, his wife and and other friends all because of the brutality and cruelty of the war. At the young age of 14, he had to stop going to school and start playing the roles of an adult , like working in order to make a living. All the struggles Vladek has gone through has truly increased my sympathy towards him. Vladek’s life was insanely hard.

Vladek Spiegelman is who I care about the most over maus I and II. During those pages, I amired his luck through every situation also his intelligence which could save him many times while in the concerntration camp. Moreover, his life story is phenomenal but also miserable. He was lucky enough to be a survior but not that lucky to be lonely after the Holocaust. No family, no friends, lost his son then his wife's suicide... He gone through all of the pain, fear and suffering which is not everyone can do it. At the end, I show respect to him and his rough journey.

I care about two people the most. Vladek and His wife, Vladek because he lost tons of family and he been through so much and so talk about it and relive those moments again is courageous because I wouldn't want to talk about all that stuff I would be a mess and crying everywhere. Anja because I feel like she overwhelmed, a lot went on and was still going on and she couldn't take it and Vladek wasn't the easiest person to talk to so she could really tell anyone. Also he son died and that is unbearable pain, I don't want to imagine anything like that but losing a close loved will have you depressed but she couldn't take it anymore.
