Reflect on one or more of these questions: What are your first thoughts about the book? What did you think the book was going to be about based on the cover? on the first few pages? Was your first impression correct? How did your opinion of the book changed as you read it?

Maus I and II is an interesting graphic novel about the author and his father, a survivor of the Holocaust. It is one of my favorite books. We will spend about a week of activities when we get back to school in August working with the book, so please be ready to go on the first day of school!
To earn your first points of the year, you should post AT LEAST FIVE TIMES TOTAL on this forum. These posts may be your own posts, or responses to someone else's ideas or questions. Your posts cannot be summaries - these won't count for points. Your posts may be... --Questions (I don't get why...I'm confused about why...Do you guys like this character? Because she's driving me crazy!...") --Reactions (I really connect with this character because...The section was hard for me to read because...This chapter made me feel...) --Connections (This book reminds me of...Does anyone else feel like this book is similar to...) --Responses (I agree with you Yarile, but I also think...You make a really good point, Michael! I also thought that...) If you read either of the extra credit books, you do not need to post on the forum. You will get a separate extra credit assignment to complete when we get back to school. Happy Reading :) Mr. Helbig Hello, this is Mr. Helbig.
I will be your Engish teacher next year. I love to read (of course) and write (uh-huh). This summer I have been doing a lot of reading and writing. I also like movies and interesting TV shows. Summer is my time for catching up on TV shows I don't get a chance to see during the school year. This summer I have been watching an old TV show called Arrested Development. I also enjoy going to live theater and like creating theater. That is why I like directing the Fall and Spring plays at HT. (You can get extra credit working on or appearing in the Fall play -- more on that later.) This is my 15th year teaching at HT and I love teaching (even though you are all crazy teenagers). My daughter is a crazy teenager, so I am used to it. She begins college this year -- I will tell you about her experiences in college as the year goes on -- and I am in charge of taking care of her dog while she is gone. I will also share pictures of her dog. He is a mountain cur (that is a hunting dog) is all black. He is a medium sized dog and looks mean (but is not, if you are good to him). I am looking forward to the new year and can't wait to hear what you think of the books we read this summer. |
